Experiment Conclusions
1. __Look at your graph. Can you idenify the region of the graph where the elastic band returned to its original shape?__Yes, this region is called the elasitc region, under the point of (1.3, .25)
2. Can you idenify the point where the elastic band no longer returned to its original shape?
Yes, this region is called the elasitc limit, above the point of (5.0, .5)
3. If possible, idenify the part of the graph after the elastic limt. Label this area the plastic region. Describe how the material looked or behaved after it reached this limit.
The plastic region is the area past the point (5.0, .5). Once we conducted trials in the plastic region, the elastic band kept on getting a new constant. Therefore we had to remeasure the original length of the elastic band to get the correct delta L.
4. Calculate the strain in the elastic band you tested using the data chart you created. Choose a loading point before and after in the plastic limit and compare the strain on the material.
1.3/5.3= .23 5.0//5.3= .94 9.1/5.4= 1.69 14.5/5.5= 2.64
What does this tell you about what will happen if you exceed the loading limit of the material?
If we exceed the loading limit of the material, the elastic band will stretch to its limit where it will not go back it its original length.
