Explanation of the Force
When weight is added to the rubber band, it will begin to stretch. You can see this because the 5 cm area marked by the black marks is now longer than 5 cm. As more weight is added to the band, it stretches even farther. Up to a certain weight or downward force, the rubber band will return to its original shape. When more that that amount of weight is added, the band will stretch and won't return to its original length when released from the weight. The rubber band can only take a weight of up to 1/4 lbs. without breaking it's elastic limit. The amount of force applied to the rubber band will determine weather or not it exceeds it's elastic limit and returns to its original shape.
